House!!

We found a house yesterday!!!!! It's about 2000 sq ft (or 180 meters), it has three floors and a basement and it comes with a full kitchen! Yeah!!! We meet with the landlord at the houseing office Thursday to sign the contract, and then we can possibly move in this weekend! I don't have any pictures yet, but if we get to move in this weekend I will post some!!

Still Looking

We have been in Germany for about ten days now and have we learned a lot! So far we have learned that most Germans have "indoor" and "outdoor" shoes, that you can't turn right at a red light (unless there is a green arrow attached to the light pole next to the red light), that fresh food is cheaper in the German stores, but all other foods (including pop!!!!!!) are much much cheaper at the Commisary, and that Europeans drive like maniacs!

We found a school for Lyssa to go to. It's an international school in the town we are currently staying in. Tim and I both like the teacher and the principle and think that it will be a very good fit for Lyssa (and hopefully she will make some new friends too!). I like the school's curriculum and the way they teach it. They teach the whole student (body, mind, emotions, etc) and they have several different knowledge bases inside the classroom itself.

We didn't end up getting that amazing house that we saw- the current tenant decided that he didn't want to go back to the states and that he was staying for three more years, so that means that we are back on the hunt for somewhere to live! It's a little stressful because housing is so expensive and  hard to find over here. We have about three weeks left to find somewhere, so keep us in your thoughts and prayers that we do!

We drove to Ramstein and went to their big mall at the air force base there on Saturday. Lyssa was excited because they had a Harley store there that she wants to take GP there when he visits this summer and she was also excited that they had a Baskin Robins! I think that she may be developing an ice cream habit.....hhhmmmm...... Anyways, the mall was neat- it had a lot more different things than the PX and Commisary have here and in Heidleberg. I think that we will definatly have to go back there!!!

Thats really about all for now. When we find a house I will post some pictures of it on here!

A few pics!!

Today we had a lot of free time so we went to the base in Heidelberg. They have a lot bigger PX and Commesary there along with a HUGE playground that Lyssa wants to go visit again tomorrow! While we were there I also bought a camera so I took a few pics that I will put at the end of this post!

After we went to PX and shopped around for a bit Tim decided to take us to see Heidelberg Castle! We have a GPS that we borrowed (thanks to Tim's new co-workers!!!!). It's a handy little thing to have when your in a foreign country! Anyways, it took us up the (small) mountain and through a couple of tunnels, and then we went around and around and around and around....and then FINALLY (!) we SEE the castle! Unfortunately, we couldn't actually find a way to actually get there but, we did see it! It's pretty neat looking! Some of the walls are crumbling and it looks like someone is trying to restore it.

Here are some of the pictures I was able to take. It's night here, so a lot of the ones I did take are pretty dark and I'll try to retake them in the daytime.

We are Here!

We arrived safely Thursday morning! Our flights went smoothly and none of our luggage was lost! YEAH!!! We checked into our hotel  http://www.central-hotel-viernheim.de/. Its a nice hotel, we have a three bedroom suite with a small kitchen and two bathrooms and a nice living room. I do have to say that the decorating is very...eccentric! When I find my camera I will post pictures so you can see what I mean!

After we arrived and got checked in, we went to the mall which is a few blocks away.  Lyssa is excited that they have a Toys r' Us and a candy store. Tim and I decided to have lunch there and we tried the wiener schnitzel and its pretty good. We also tried a donor kabob which is shavings of meat with flat bread, onion, cabbage, lettuce, tomato, and some kind of sauce. It's the German version of a fast food gyro. It was pretty yummy!

After that we were all pretty exhausted so we went to bed! That's pretty much all thats been going on! Today Tim is going to get his military ID's and see where he will be working. I think that Lyssa and I may go back to the mall to see what else is there now that we are more awake!! (either that or take another nap!)

Day 1: Travel Day!

Welcome to my blog! Since we are moving to Germany I thought that I would document our experiences here to share with my family and friends! So sit back and enjoy a nice cup of a beverage of your choice and enjoy!

Today we were supposed to leave, but with the snow storm that passed through Sunday and Monday our flight was canceled! So we have re-booked  for tomorrow, so hopefully we will be leaving then!!! Unfortunately because of the severe cold right now we will not be able to bring Sunny with us, but hopefully she will join us soon!
